What are the most frequent adverse events reported for escitalopram?

The most frequent adverse events are consistent with those expected for a SSRI:

  • nausea
  • ejaculatory disorder in men
  • insomnia
  • somnolence
  • dry mouth
  • dizziness
  • influenza-like symptoms

Apart from nausea, none of the adverse events (with a frequency >10%) occur in excess of placebo levels. As with citalopram, most adverse events decline in frequency and intensity after the first few weeks of treatment.
