Does escitalopram inhibit the CYP450 enzymes?
Escitalopram and its demethyl metabolite are both weak or negligible inhibitors of human hepatic enzyme systems (CYP1A2, 2C9, 2C19, 2D6, 2E1, 3A4) in vitro, and are unlikely to cause important drug interactions via CYP inhibition (ref.1).
Caution is however recommended when escitalopram is co-administered with medicinal products mainly metabolised by CYP206 that have a narrow therapeutic index (please refer to the SPC).
