Is escitalopram better than citalopram in severely depressed patients?

Lam et al. (2006) have documented, in a meta-analysis, that escitalopram has demonstrated an increased effect in the treatment of more severely depressed patients, where citalopram demonstrated a reduction in efficacy in the more severely depressed patients.
