Cipralex vs. citalopram

Faster and more effective than citalopram.

The pooled analysis examined the evaluations that were conducted at baseline and after 1, 2, 3, 6 and 8 weeks of double-blind treatment.

  • Early onset of symptom improvement may increase patient adherence to treatment and reduce progression in major depression. (ref.1)
  • Cipralex significantly improved depressive symptoms from week 1 compared to placebo and citalopram

Mean change from baseline in MADRS total score in a subgroup of severely depressed patients treated with escitalopram 10–20 mg/day, citalopram 20–40 mg/day or placebo.

  • Severely ill Cipralex patients (MADRS >=30) showed greater improvement than citalopram patients (ref.2)
